Job Responsibilities

Medical care:

  • Assess and treat minor injuries and illnesses like cuts, scrapes, headaches, stomach aches, and allergic reactions.
  • Administer medications as prescribed by a doctor, including emergency medications like epinephrine for anaphylaxis.
  • Provide basic first aid and wound care.
  • Monitor students with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, and allergies, and implement necessary care plans.
  • Health screenings and assessments:
  • Conduct regular health screenings like vision, hearing, height, weight, and blood pressure checks.
  • Screen for potential health issues and refer students to appropriate healthcare providers when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate student health records including immunization history and medical conditions.
  • Health education and promotion:
  • Teach students about healthy habits like proper hygiene, nutrition, exercise, and injury prevention.
  • Provide age-appropriate sex education and information about substance abuse prevention.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to incorporate health education into the curriculum.

Communication and collaboration:

  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns, including notifying them of injuries or illnesses requiring medical attention.
  • Collaborate with school administrators to develop and implement health policies and procedures.
  • Consult with healthcare providers regarding student health needs and treatment plans.

Emergency response:

  • Manage emergency situations like severe allergic reactions, seizures, or fainting episodes.
  • Coordinate with school staff to initiate emergency response procedures in case of accidents or medical crises.

Requirements

  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Knowledge of child development and common childhood illnesses
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with students, parents, and staff.

Education

Diploma/B.Sc in Nursing

Experience

Experience working with children and adolescents
